Controller

First State Community Bank is looking for a motivated individual with a strong sense of accountability and attention-to-detail to fill the role of Controller.

The Controller will be responsible for managing the company's accounting practices, the maintenance of fiscal records, and the preparation of its financial reports. This employee will have overall supervisory responsibility of all financial reporting for the company, including month-end close, data analysis and reconciliations.

Professionalism

  • Develop and maintain relationships with banking, insurance, and non-organizational accounting personnel to facilitate financial activities
  • Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions

Accountability

  • Manage the financial reporting process, providing accurate and timely data to management
  • Actively participate in department strategic planning and process efficiency improvement
  • Coordinate audits and tax return completion of company accounts and financial transactions to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements and statutes, including the financial statement audit

Initiative

  • Analyze, interpret and present statistical and accounting information in order to evaluate operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget & prior year
  • Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting entries
  • Provide direction and assistance to other organizational units regarding accounting and budgeting policies and procedures and efficient control and utilization of financial resources

Adaptability

  • Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards
  • Monitor financial activities and details such as reserve levels to ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements are met
  • Prepare or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting required
  • Finance/accounting experience with financial institution in roles such as accounting manager, assistant controller, or senior audit associate or above
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Analytical decision-making and planning skills
  • Ability to develop high levels of credibility and forge solid and positive professional relationships with subordinates, peers, and upper management
  • Must be highly organized, detail oriented, analytical, and self-motivated
  • Proven ability to work at a high degree of teamwork and group synergy
  • Knowledge of US GAAP, Excel and other Microsoft products required. Use of Excel should include V-LOOKUP, pivot tables and other intermediate formulas
