Scott Family Amazeum Overview

The Scott Family Amazeum is a hands-on, interactive museum in Northwest Arkansas and recognized as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. We create a fun environment where risk taking, imagining, problem solving, discovery, collaboration, and exploration bring children and adults together to learn and grow. 

 

Amazeum Mission: To engage the imagination of children and their families through interactive exhibits, programs, and resources while creating an excitement for lifelong learning and the enrichment of lives.

 

Through experiences with the Amazeum, individuals and the community are engaged in building relationships and developing identities as creative, curious, and innovative shapers for the region. Learning at the Amazeum is an active, playful exploration that inspires curiosity. It is rooted in inquiry-based discovery and involves an element of risk. Hands-on learning opportunities allow guests to exercise critical thinking in the context of play. 

 

The Amazeum facility includes approximately 50,000 square feet of indoor space and one acre of outdoor exhibition and activity space. The museum is located at the intersection of Museum Way and J Street in Bentonville, AR.

 

Position Summary

Reporting to the Guest Experience Manager, the Guest Experience Team Lead (GETL) is an energetic, collaborative professional with a passion for providing playful learning experiences for children and families that inspire curiosity, creativity, and community. The Guest Experience Team Lead assists in ensuring an overall exceptional guest experience through high-quality daily operations and team excellence in the delivery of guest experiences. The GETL helps implement the Amazeum’s mission and intended impact throughout the exhibit hall. The Guest Experience Team Lead’s primary functions are to serve as shift lead and to assist in the development of pop ups, zinglits, and other value added guest experiences. The GETL ensures that information is communicated to the Play Facilitator team as needed through the appropriate communication methods.

 

Essential Functions 

  • Serve as "Shift Lead”

    • Develop daily shift schedules to ensure a vibrant guest experience in the exhibit hall which may include interactive activities, facilitation of exhibit galleries and Hershey’s Lab, breaks, cleaning, and other duties

    • Ensure the exhibit hall has a positive, playful atmosphere through hands-on supervision and circulating throughout the museum to enforce and modify daily shift schedule and directly interact with guests

    • Respond to first aid, safety issues, and guest concerns as needed following Amazeum best practices and protocols

    • Confer with the Guest Services Team Lead to take appropriate action for weather and other emergency protocols

    • Perform exhibit gallery start-up and/or shutdown procedures including team huddles and End of the Day parade

    • Assist with troubleshooting and basic maintenance/repair of exhibits as instructed by the Senior Exhibitions Manager  

  • Help maintain inventory of guest experience supplies

  • Practice adaptable and resourceful problem solving skills pertaining to team and guest experiences

  • Collaborate with Guest Experience Team to help develop strategies for guest engagement, public programs, and/or special events at the Amazeum and off site at community partner organizations

  • Actively participate in team meetings and share in the assessment of team and experiences

  • Support the Guest Experience Manager in conducting training and evaluation protocols for the Play Facilitator team

  • Assist with the overall coordination and delivery of excellent Unfield Trip experiences

  • Advocate for and communicate the Amazeum’s mission, programs, and policies to the public and team

  • Contributes to team recognition and appreciation efforts on a regular basis

  • Develop an understanding of the organizational structure and operations while fostering the Amazeum culture among team

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

  • 18 years of age or older

  • High school diploma or GED 

  • 1+ year experience working with children and families

  • Proficient in the use of Google Workspace and Microsoft Office applications including Gmail, Docs/Word, Sheets/Excel, and Slides/PowerPoint 

  • Basic understanding of hands-on learning facilitation and pedagogy

  • Ability and willingness to support the development of team through constructive coaching methods

  • Pass a background check

 

Physical Requirements

  • Able to stand, walk, and interact with children and adults for extended periods of time

  • Able to lift up to 20 lbs. overhead regularly and occasionally 40 lbs.

  • Candidates are required to pass a criminal background check 

  • Ability to work in an environment with moderate to excessive noise

  • Reliable personal transportation required

 

Preferred Skills: 

  • BS/BA/AA in Education, Play Therapy, Science, Art, Theater, Museum Studies, or related field

  • 1+ year experience supervising employees and/or volunteers

  • Ability to manage time effectively, problem solve under pressure, and adapt to changing environments.

  • Demonstrated success in guest engagement and customer service through strong written and verbal communication skills with emphasis on interacting with diverse audiences.

  • Bilingual ability is desired, but not required

  • Proven ability to work independently as well as within a team environment

  • Understand the subtleties of non-verbal cues and the ability to respond to guests appropriately

  • Demonstrate curiosity and passion for learning through a whimsical spirit of play
