Scope

Andrews McMeel Universal is seeking a Senior Communications Specialist or Communications Specialist to join our People & Communications team. Both title and compensation will commensurate with experience.

Our Communications Specialist strengthens AMUs external corporate reputation and internal associate engagement through authentic, timely and passionate storytelling. With energy, enthusiasm, and expertise, this position will generate compelling and creative media coverage and manage AMU's internal communications channels to share empowering business information with AMU associates.

This position is responsible for developing, supporting, and executing communications plans and initiatives to:

  • Increase positive visibility for Andrews McMeel Universal and its divisions within the Kansas City community by cultivating a meaningful, consistent presence for AMU in key channels.
  • Keep associate informed and engaged through high quality, consistent, timely, and relevant internal communications. Includes management of all internal communications channels.
  • Support our one company approach managing the consistent expression of the AMU corporate brand messages. Partner with marketing and Creative Services in these efforts.
  • Support AMU recruitment through the development of effective campaigns.

 

Responsibilities & Qualifications

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be a role model and champion for positive, effective communication and collaboration.
  • With the Chief People and Communications Officer, develop annual strategic external and internal communications plans to support AMUs business, community, and cultural initiatives.
  • Execute ongoing local corporate media relations for Andrews McMeel Universal. Work closely with Vice President of Marketing to support national media relations efforts for AMU and its divisions.
  • Develop external press releases and announcements, responsibilities include the development of applications for Company and associate awards and recognition.
  • Manage AMU LinkedIn channel to enhance AMUs reputation as a progressive, integrated media partner for creative talent (internal and external).
  • Develop and execute content strategy for AMU corporate website, company intranet site (UNET), and lobby assets; includes seeking input from key stakeholders and writing, editing and curating content.
  • Serve as editor of AMUs associate eNewsletter to improve consistency and timeliness of information.
  • Support HR team with ad hoc associate communications and updates to Associate Handbook.
  • Maintain associate TEAMs channels developed by P&C to support cultural initiatives and internal communication.
  • With HR team, help plan and implement communications for associate events and training.
  • With HR team, design and execute effective recruitment campaigns to build awareness and interest of AMU among a diverse talent pool.
  • With Director of Creative Services, maintain and update AMU brand standards.
  • Maintain metrics for communications platforms and perform analysis to establish KPIs and propose measurable improvements
  • Supervise communications intern.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors or Associates degree in journalism, communications, English or related discipline
  • 1-3+ years of experience as a leader in a fast-paced environment either as part of a communications, PR or marketing team for a corporation or agency; supervisory experience a plus
  • Experience contributing to or managing a corporate intranet and/or internet site preferred
  • Experience coordinating social media and digital content preferred
  • Experience developing and executing content strategy preferred
  • Mastery of Word Press or similar content management systems
  • Experience with Mail Chimp or similar email tools
  • Google Analytics, SEO fundamentals, social media platforms, email marketing, and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, InDesign, Cision a plus
