The Aquatics Director is a seasonal position that reports to the Director of Summer Programs. The aquatics program will run from June 20 - August 4, 2023 (no camp on July 3 and 4). The expected hours of work are 8:00 am-4:00 pm, Monday-Friday. The Director is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations and maintenance of Potomac’s aquatic facility and equipment, prioritizing safety of the campers and supervising the aquatics team. The Director is a leadership presence in nurturing a sense of community and creating a healthy camp environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Work closely with the Potomac Schools' Auxiliary Programs team to oversee recruitment, training and schedules of the aquatic staff.

Serve as a mentor and trainer to the aquatic staff. Supervise the team’s day-to-day activities. Schedule and lead weekly meetings and safety drills. Complete staff evaluations at the end of the season.

Be easily accessible to the aquatic team to support them, specially with camper discipline and emergency situations.

Ability to communicate and give swim instructions effectively to campers age 5-15.

Oversee camper placement within the aquatic program. Implement and oversee swim lessons, free swim and pool safety. Ensure that the activities are age appropriate and offer a safe, engaging and high quality summer program.

Ensure all safety protocols and procedures established by Summer@Potomac are followed by campers and staff.

Ability to assess camper behavior and implement safety and emergency procedures, if needed. Communicate with camper families, if needed. Maintain a log of communication with camper families.

Actively participate in Summer@Potomac camp activities and build relationships with campers and other members of the team.

Adhere to the procedures and policies outlined in the Summer@Potomac Handbook.

Oversee the maintenance of the pools, to include chemistry, climate control, cleanliness, and related maintenance. Ensuring that all appropriate water, environmental, health and safety standards are maintained; pools are compliant with all local, state and national requirements.

Manage the ordering of camp supplies and equipment. Ensure the proper use of Summer@Potomac facilities and equipment.

Ensure the pool area is clean, safe and free from debris and hazardous materials.

Communicate effectively with the Director of Summer Programs to report any concerns about a camper’s and a staff member’s health, safety and behavior.

Participate in staff orientations, pre-camp staff training, preparations for camp opening and meetings. Ensure that the pool is ready for the first day of camp - June 20, 2023. Participate in weekly director staff meetings.
