JOB DESCRIPTION:

Overview:

An Assistant Head Coach is someone who is passionate about the next generation of climbers and prepares the climbers for competition(s). Assistant Head Coaches embody the core values, are enthusiastic, self-motivated, proactive, and deliver outstanding customer experiences to new visitors, guests, members, and partners who walk through our doors.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Coach with developing & implementing training for coaches interested in coaching the Comp & Training Team;
  • Leads other Youth Program coaches and camp counselors by example;
  • Provides input on development of Comp Team curriculum, coaches & athletes and regularly checks in with the Head Coach to report on their progress;
  • Regularly monitor & update the Comp Teams seasonal roster;
  • Manages and trains recreational & competition coaches to ensure the delivery of program curriculum is meeting Sender Ones standards;
  • Check in with assigned staff on a monthly basis and ensure team coaches are performing at the expected level;
  • Connects with parents & climbers to receive feedback about the teams through emails, phone calls, and in-person interactions and provide information about upcoming comps & events;
  • Organize team events, including but not limited to, tryouts, team building events, end of season celebrations;
  • Attends the weekly YP meeting to guide the departments strategy and provide the curriculum to the teams;
  • Collaborates with Programs Manager to develop the Youth Programs department.

PROFILE & EXPERIENCE:

Profile:

  • Passion for rock climbing and youth in particular;
  • Service-oriented and relationship-building philosophy;
  • Strong moral character and unquestioned integrity;
  • Positive attitude and proven ability to work collaboratively with athletes, coaches, staff, officials, event organizers, sponsors, volunteers, etc;
  • Communication skills that are positive and effective in both interpersonal relationships, in meetings and in making presentations, etc;
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and develop staff;
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to function at a high level under stress;
  • Thorough knowledge of Sender One services, programs and products as well as current knowledge of key competitors;
  • Highly organized and comfortable recording and tracking information and data.

Industry Experience:

  • 2 or more years of climbing experience with a strong understanding of climbing movement and skills;
  • Climbing competition experience as coach or competitor;
  • Experience working with youth in a teaching/instruction capacity;
  • CPR certified;
  • Safesport & CDC Concussion certified;
  • Able to lift 40 pounds.

Time Commitment:

  • Must be able to work at least 16 hours per week including, but not limited to, 3-4 office hours per week;
  • Must be able to attend all seasonal competitions (primarily held on weekends);
  • Must be able to attend Youth Programs weekly meetings;
  • Must be able to attend the Mandatory All Staff Quarterly meeting.
