I. POSITION PURPOSE
The purpose of this position is to manage the music ministry and oversee the other liturgical ministries in order to provide a cohesive, reverent and beautiful Mass experience for the parishioners at Our Lady of Lourdes.
II. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: MUSIC
A. Collaborates with the Pastor and other staff in implementing the mission of the parish. This is accomplished by participating in the planning, implementing, and evaluation of the parish’s programs, goals, and objectives, with specific focus on music and liturgy.
B. Assures that music is provided for parish weekend or special liturgies. This is accomplished by selecting music and by recruiting and scheduling musicians for all weekend and other major parish liturgies celebrations.
C. Directs the parish choirs. Recruits, trains, and supports cantors and choral groups. Is responsible for scheduling practices and assuring accompanists and music are available.
D. Collaborates with the Pastor, and other staff members to ensure appropriate music for all parish sacramental celebrations and provides them with needed assistance.
E. Facilitates the participation of the parish community in singing at liturgical celebrations. Selects and develops worship aids for the congregation and provides opportunities for congregation to participate through singing.
F. Ensures appropriate copyright permissions, user fees and licenses have been obtained for all material used in the parish music program.
G. Works with parish school music program to support school choirs or music programs.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: LITURGY
Serves as Mass coordinator to ensure that all liturgical needs for Mass are met or covered including:
A. Provides direction on the appropriate readings and Mass parts/propers in consultation with the GIRM and Ordo
B. Prepares announcements and Intercessions
C. Fills in for sudden absences or find substitutes as needed
D. Sets up rehearsals as needed
E. Provide the Order of Mass as needed
F. Supervises all liturgical livestreams
G. Assures adequate materials for worship (such as missalettes, hymnals, pamphlets, handouts) are available
H. Coordinates with wedding and funeral coordinators when planning Wedding and Funeral Masses/Services
I. Collaborates with liturgical ministry leaders to ensure adequate scheduling of Ushers, Greeters, Readers, Extraordinary Ministers, Altar Servers, etc. for all Sunday and other major parish liturgies.
III. ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPOSIBILITIES
- Coordinates the care and tuning of the organs and submits invoices for services provided to the bookkeeper.
- Attends rehearsals for special Masses and staff meetings as requested.
- Creates scripts and order of services/celebrations
- Attends archdiocesan functions as a representative of the parish (Chrism Mass/liturgy training)
IV. HOURS AND SCHEDULE:
Fluctuates depending on season (Lent, Advent, Christmas, Easter)
