Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director, Ambassador Teacher Program, the Communication Specialist is responsible for the development and implementation of all Participate Learning  communications related to the programmatic support of our international teachers, communications with host school/principal as well as implementation of various teacher engagement initiatives. The Communications Specialist is responsible for providing meaningful and effective messaging on program matters.  This includes the use of marketing automation software to manage email campaigns, writing and managing surveys, blogs, and presentations as well as use of social media and communities of practice to actively engage participants. The Communications Specialist is also responsible for implementation of diverse teacher engagement initiatives. This individual collaborates with multiple departments within Participate Learning to coordinate communications and teacher engagement efforts. 

This position works as a member of the Teacher Experience team whose goals are tied to teacher satisfaction and retention, teacher learning and engagement and customer service.


Essential Functions (include, but are not limited to)

Ambassador Teacher Communications (audience: U.S. based international teachers)

  • Create and manage a communications plan for teachers that includes program information, resources and engagement opportunities and is aligned with teacher engagement and learning goals.

  • Effectively communicate through various channels with teachers from diverse backgrounds by understanding Participate Learning’s goals and the needs of the teachers.

  • Use of marketing automation software to deliver and track messages to educators

  • Write appropriate and compelling content consistent with Participate Learning’s mission and brand for a variety of needs, such as:

    • Monthly Participate Learning’s Update - email newsletter

    • Blog posts on relevant topics such as K-12 education, cultural exchange, etc

    • Teacher program content management such as Teacher Resource Guide online manual, welcome brochure, orientation workbook, etc.

    • Programmatic teacher communications, including renewals, salary advance, orientation, etc

    • Communications intended for school or district administrators such as program newsletters, surveys, arrival & renewal messaging etc.

  • Write, distribute and analyze program surveys in collaboration with Director of Research and Evaluation

  • Implementation of teacher engagement initiatives in various channels such as communities of practice, review and feedback for teacher engagement badges, in person events, etc 

  • Contribute to other team activities such as events support for new teacher orientations and other special projects related to teacher retention as needed.

Key Knowledge, Skill, Ability and Education Requirements (G
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience;

  • 3-5 years of related professional experience, demonstrating ability to manage complex projects through implementation;

  • Excellent communications skills and experience in written and oral communications at a business or university level;

  • Copy editing skills/experience preferred;

  • Strong knowledge of digital media landscape including social media sites; 

  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred

  • Skill to problem solve independently, using knowledge of Participate Learning’s policies and guidelines as well as own work experience and judgment and to identify appropriate resources.

  • Skill to effectively learn and use new softwares (e.g., Salesforce, Pardot, Google docs and Microsoft Office)

  •  Excellent organization skills and attention to detail;

  • Ability to make informed and timely decisions, and use sound judgment to prioritize actions;

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment;

  • Proven experience and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines;

  • Demonstrated flexibility and optimism in performing duties;

  • Ability to build internal and external relationships and networks in order to achieve results;
