Position Title:

People & Culture Team Generalist

Position Summary:

The People & Culture Generalist works with the Director, People & Culture to support Orangewood Foundation and Samueli Academy employees. This position is responsible for recruitment, payroll, benefits, employee relations, culture, compliance and employee engagement.

 

 

 

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Recruitment: Manage full cycle recruitment process for both organizations. Work with hiring managers to review job descriptions and determine the best recruitment strategy for each position. Develop processes and procedures that enhance the candidate experience.
  • Payroll: Responsible for processing the Samueli Academy and Orangewood Residential semi-monthly payrolls utilizing Paycom. This process includes all necessary audits of timecards, benefits and employee changes.
  • Employee Benefits:  Assist with carrier plan selections, assist with the coordination of the open-enrollment process, assisting employees with benefit enrollments/changes, 403(b) administration, manage STRS enrollment, leaves of absence coordination, processing workers compensation claims and working with COBRA vendor.  Responsible for timely submission of monthly benefit invoices and invoice reconciliation.  Assist with annual benefit reporting requirements.
  • Compliance: Work with the Director, People & Culture to manage all organization compliance requirements and reporting. Partner with the Director, Compliance & Quality to develop effective procedure to maintain compliance with all government contract requirements.
  • Employee Engagement: Partner with the Director, People & Culture to develop engagement opportunities for both organizations and support an employee empowered culture in support of the Strategic Plan.
  • Culture: Support the active evolution of the organizations culture while partnering with leaders and employees throughout the organization. Provide support of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion initiatives through partnership, training and communication.
  • Proven experience working with confidential information, and using sensitivity, tact, and discretion in internal and external communication.
  • Demonstrated skills to assess priorities in order to complete work in a timely manner in an environment of competing deadlines and constraints; including a continually changing workload.
  • Excellent ability to build relationships and develop partnerships across multiple organizations.
  • Strong technical knowledge with experience using multiple HRIS platforms including Paycom.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications

 

Knowledge, Skill and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 3-5 years’ Human Resources experience. Non-profit and public/charter school experience a plus.
  • In depth knowledge of CA labor laws and HR best practices.
  • Experience with Paycom or other HRM systems.
  • Experience processing payroll.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Comfortable presenting oneself in community settings.
  • Possess a valid California driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.  Position requires DMV clearance.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check, FBI/DOJ fingerprinting, TB Test and drug test.

Working Environment/Physical Requirements:

Position may require use of personal vehicle. Physical requirements include standing, sitting, typing, bending and lifting up to approximately 50 lbs. (i.e. tables, chairs, food, water, etc.)

 

Modification to work schedule may be made based on need of the Foundation.
