The Arts are a key component of our mission, and in advancing that mission, we are seeking a passionateMusic Educator to lead our Lower School music program, with an emphasis on nurturing students' appreciation of music, developing musical skills and a basic understanding of musical concepts, and instilling confidence in performing.

A bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related music or educational field is required, with a master's degree preferred. The anticipated start date for this position is August 1st, 2024.

Essential Functions:

  • Support the mission of Oak Hall School in all aspects of student and colleague engagement
  • Plan and creatively teach students how to express themselves through music, with a developmentally appropriate and balanced music program for students in Preschool through Grade 5
  • Utilize a varied repertoire of music learning experiences, that are both developmentally appropriate and represent equity and diversity
  • Effectively incorporate national and state music education standards and benchmarks into a sequential curriculum
  • Plan, organize, and direct a community performance for each grade level (1 to 5); performances should incorporate opportunities for each student to perform both music (vocal and/or instrumental) and spoken words
  • Work collaboratively with the Lower School Art Teacher to create sets, backdrops, and props, including student made art, for Lower School musicals
  • Collaborate with the Director of Fine Arts other members of the Fine Arts Department to plan, organize, and produce the annual One School Musical which includes students from Lower, Middle, and Upper School
  • Organize planning periods and class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time
  • Employ a fun, creative, and engaging music curriculum that nurtures students’ individual talents and passions
  • Model and foster a joy and enthusiasm for music, and a vision of music that supports the mission of the school
  • Promote a positive classroom environment and demonstrate strong classroom management skills to create and maintain a learning environment that ensures high levels of learning for all students
  • Provide active and engaging hands-on experiences as part of the curriculum
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Fine Arts other Fine Arts Faculty to create interdisciplinary units, share resources, and develop opportunities to showcase collaborative Fine Arts efforts
  • Collaborate with the Lower School team to develop and direct performances for special events including Mother’s Day Teas, Grandparents Day, International Days, Veterans Day, and Lower School assemblies
  • Assess and document each student’s performance/progress to meet the School's standards, and provide feedback to students and their parents, as needed
  • In collaboration with the Director of Fine Arts, manage the Lower School Music budget
  • Be an active member of, and work collaboratively with, the Lower School team, the Fine Arts Department, and the greater Oak Hall community
  • Serve as a mentor and advocate for your students
  • Be a role model of integrity and professionalism
  • Submit weekly lesson plans
  • Meet regular and predictable attendance requirements, including attending division and other school meetings, professional days, graduation, all school events, and other required events.
  • Adhere to School policies as described in the Employee Handbook and other materials
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in field required; (Music Education, Music)
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience teaching music to elementary age children is required
  • A keen understanding of the social/emotional needs of elementary aged students is required
  • Must demonstrate a high level of piano proficiency, proficiency with additional instruments is a plus
  • Must demonstrate a high level of proficiency in instruction of choral and music theater vocal technique with all grade level students (for One School Musical)
  • Experience with and working knowledge of national and state music education benchmarks and standards
  • Ability to operate a sound system
  • Be comfortable and adept with the effective use of technology in the learning process
  • Ability to inspire, engage, empower, and educate, and evaluate students with vigor and creativity
  • A history of commitment to professional development and life-long learning
  • The ability to work positively and professionally with students, parents and faculty
  • A high degree of professionalism, collegiality, and personal conduct both in and outside of school
  • Ability, willingness, and judgment to communicate thoroughly, accurately, and concisely with all constituents in a school environment, both verbally and in writing
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to the vision and mission of the school

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Works in a classroom environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts
  • Regularly uses close and distance vision
  • May stand for extended periods of time
  • Works primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment
  • Ability to visually and audibly locate students under their supervision
  • Ability to turn, bend, reach, kneel, crawl, stoop, and squat
  • Ability to actively circulate throughout the diverse campus environment
  • Ability to occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 30 lbs.
