Description

The El Monte Day Program Instructor provides 1:3 and/or 1:1 direct care support to individuals with developmental disabilities in the following areas, Covina, El Monte, Pomona, Altadena, Arcadia, Rowland Heights and others. The reports El Monte Day Program Instructor directly to the In2Vision team management and are responsible for the daily care of our clients. El Monte Day Program Instructor are to assist, train, and promote independency in the following areas:

Employment Preparation:
o Provide instruction to the client to acquire skills necessary for successful employment and be successful in the community. This includes supporting the client with personal appearance/hygiene, screening/application/interview process, building a network, preparing a resume, time management, communication, working under direct supervision and safety awareness.
Volunteer Activities:
o Focus on consumers individualized needs and interest to develop or maintain volunteer activities, establish viable job skills in preparation for paid employment, attendance, voicing questions and concerns.
Communication Skills:
o Provide instruction to the client to access facilitated communication devices which may include Braille, Sign Language, finger spelling, augmentative devices, development of adaptations as per choice, mannerism, etc. Provide training and Instruction how to use a telephone, cell phone, internet, etc.
Mobility Training:
o Provide instruction and training to the client on how to access public transportation, familiarizing themselves with bus routes, DMV materials, obtaining bus passes, ect.
Education Training
o Provide instruction on how to enroll in classes, apply for financial aid, school/class selection, maintain daily attendance and complete assignment/s.
Money Management:
o Provide instruction and training how to budget, make change, purchase merchandise, count and conduct cost comparisons.
Self Help Skills:
o Promote confidence and independence, tend to basic hygiene tasks, ensure they are dressed appropriately for weather and environment.
Environmental Awareness and Public Adaptation:
o Provide instruction on how to safely and confidently access public professionals, develop natural supports in all settings.
Personal and Public Safety Skills:
o Provide instruction and training in recognizing stranger danger safety skills, recognition of safe vs. unsafe environments, street safety skills.

Emergency Preparedness:
o Provide instruction and training on how to remain safe in the event of an emergency such as fire, earthquake, and any other emergency. Ensure that they are aware of the use and purpose of 911 and emergency services.
Community Resources Awareness:
o Provide instruction and support in most advantageous access of all possible public/community resources.
Health and Fitness:
o Provide instruction, training and support with diet programs, exercise, medical conditions, making healthy food choices, etc.
Self Advocacy Skills:
o Provide instruction and training to ensure the client is aware of their rights, identifying when their rights are being violated, use of legal rights, self reliance, self esteem, empowerment, etc.
Benefit Planning:
o Provide training and assistance with accessing Medi-Cal benefits, applying for SSI, Medi-Cal, assist and train the client how to make appointments, cancel appointments, attend appointments, etc.
Shopping skills:
o Provide training and assistance with shopping for groceries in the community. Instructor will advise client in making healthy food choices and assist with price comparison)
Safety
o Report Special incidents according to In2vision’s policy and procedures
o Ensure that the client receives professional, quality services in a safe and meaningful manner
o Medication handling (reminds, hand, and encourage, but not ADMINISTER)
o Assist with the transferring client from wheelchair to vehicle, restroom, bed, when and if necessary
o Must have back pack and binder with you at all times (provided by I2V)
o Assure the safety of the clients at all times
o Abide by the California laws such as speed limits, pulling over to text or make/take a call
o Devote your time to the client during service programming hours
o Supervise clients while on various outings Programming
o Participate in development of the individual program plan (IPP), and or individual service plan (ISP)and or individual educational plan (IEP)
o Monitors services and clients progress in relationship to establish goals and objectives per clients plans
o Provide training as outlined in the client’s IPP, ISP, and or IEP
o Attends team meetings or other trainings as part of continuation of education or any agency-wide training and in-service programs
o Participates or provides information in clients quarterly/semi -annual /annual meetings
o Research and plan activities for each of your consumers according to their focus areas and IPP goals
Communication
o Communicate on regular basis with In2vision Administration, client and or families and other service providers and agencies as needed
o You MUST check in and out during work hours via text, call, or email
o Must have a working cell phone at all times and it Must be ON during work hours
o Must respond to management within the hour of a missed call or text.
o Communicate with supervisor regarding questions and concerns related to employment, hours, rates, client’s family, programs, etc.

Documentation:

  • Must complete timesheets accurately and legibly, and be signed –off by parent/consumer at all times and submit paperwork on Pay Day( see pay day schedule)
  • Must complete weekly notes and other notes accurately and legibly, and be signed-off by parent/consumer at all times and submit paperwork on Pay Day
  • Must perform other related duties and assignments as required.

Working Schedule:
Employment Classification: Hourly Rate of Pay/Non-Exempt
Employment Status: Part- Time & based on Day Program client service hours about Thirty (30) Hours or more per work week.
Monday through Friday: Based on Day Program Client Service Hours
Saturday through Sunday: Based on Day Program Client Service Hours
Holiday/After Office Hours: Not Applicable

Following are the requirements for the position:

  • Pass a background check and TB test
  • Possess a valid California Driver’s license and provide a current driving record issued by the DMV
  • Current car registration and insurance
  • Driving Experience - Minimum 1 year
  • Be certified in CPR/FA/CPI; we can provide training if needed!
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, squat and lift 50 LBS
  • Must have good English skills (verbal and written); must have good problem-solving skills and be a team player in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be over 18 years old and have experience in this field
