Surf Internet is looking for quality people who share our values of hard work and business ethics and who desire to be part of a team to operationalize our commitment to deliver reliable and consistently high-quality services.  Qualifying candidates will have a strong technical skillset across extensive network disciplines and be comfortable working in a high-growth environment.  The Access Network Engineer’s primary responsibility is to design, optimize, validate, and configure the access layer of Surf Internet’s network and systems.  This position requires excellent attention to detail and communication skills in a team environment while supporting a reliable and high-performance network.

  • Designing, optimizing, validating, and configuring all aspects of the Surf Internet access network.  
  • Collaborate with the NOC on network change management to ensure proper planning, tracking, reporting, and communication of network maintenance windows.
  • Continually working to improve the customer experience and performance of the network at the access layer.
  • Continually evaluating and optimizing the use of Surf Internet’s IPv4 and IPv6 resources.
  • Ensuring our DHCP infrastructure is operating optimally to prevent customer-impacting issues.
  • Working with logical network segmentation technologies such as VLANs to ensure proper traffic handling.
  • Ensuring that traffic is appropriately routed and switched using protocols such as OSPF and MPLS between the access and transport layers of the Surf Internet network.
  • Work with our provisioning and NOC teams to assist with VxLAN and VPLS configuration for customer segmentation.
  • Support the NOC engineer for advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics.
  • Coordinate with local teams for fiber active cabinet design, including placement and PON counts.
  • Coordinate with local teams for site upgrade planning, design, and implementation.
  • Perform access layer firmware testing and validation.
  • Work with the Network Engineering and NOC teams to ensure DDoS mitigation performs as expected with minimal impact on customers and the Surf Internet network.
  • Provide network assistance by working in close contact with vendors and clients.
  • Ensure the knowledge base is current and accurate and the technical issues are tracked and documented in a detailed format.
  • Participate in on-call shifts as needed in support of our 24x7 network operations.
  • Create and manage documentation for how the network functions and is configured.

  • Represent Surf Internet professionally to satisfy immediate external stakeholder needs to foster return business and establish Surf as an “easy to do business with” provider.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, IT, computer science, or a related field of study preferred
  • 4-7 years of networking experience
  • Strong understanding of OSPF, MPLS, VPLS, DWDM, GPON, and Active E fiber networks
  • Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices
  • Knowledge of application transport and infrastructure protocols
  • Ability to create network diagrams and documentation for the design and planning of network communication systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of network cabling and network topology
  • Fluent in Adtran, Juniper, and Mikrotik routing and switching preferred
  • Knowledge of Cambium, Ubiquiti, and BaiCells equipment preferred
  • Network certifications such as JNCIA-JUNOS, MTCINE and EfficientIP preferred
