SENIOR DIRECTOR OF FINANCE

The American Printing House for the Blind (APH), a world leader in creating learning solutions and pathways to success for children and adults who are blind or visually impaired, is seeking a Director of Finance. This position will be responsible for effectively directing and overseeing all activities within the Finance Department as assigned. Prepares, presents, and interprets financial and analysis reports to Directors, Managers, and government agencies. Provides management with financial information and analyses that will support the overall financial activities of the organization. Maintains the company’s accounting system and general ledger chart of accounts.

This position reports to the Vice President, Chief Financial Officer.

• Direct, manage, coordinate, and review all accounting functions and staff, including Payroll and Benefits; Capital and Financial Assets Administration; A/P and A/R; Audit compliance; General Ledger; Asset and Liability management; and Budgeting, Forecasting, and Analysis.
• Leads all financial planning and analysis (FP&A), including forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow management.
• Lead the Finance Team.
• Ensure the federally funded programs are in compliance with federal accounting guidelines.
• Oversee process optimization, identify issues in need of optimization in the finance function, defining the purpose and goals.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, TAX, and other regulatory requirements; as well as stay abreast of regulatory developments and industry best practices.
• Manage the financial close process and update processes as needed to meet business and reporting objectives.
• Prepare, analyze, and distribute financial reports for different stakeholders, including Chief Financial Officer, internal department managers, the Board of Trustees, and the Executive Leadership.
• Maintain the general ledger chart of accounts and provide management with timely reporting and analysis of General Ledger transactions as needed and requested.
• Monitor, maintain, and assist with implementation of internal accounting controls and procedures.
• Coordinate and lead all audit activities, including annual financial and government audits, employee benefits audits, and filing of all required returns, and other statutory filings.
• Partner with the IT team to identify and implement technology solutions and drive towards automation.
• Interact effectively with financial vendors, banks, and users of financial information.
• Work cross functionally with all departments to ensure senior managers have information to manage their components of the business. Support other departments with financial information, including grant applications and reporting.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required, MBA degree strongly preferred.
• 10+ years’ experience in Accounting or Finance required, Non-Profit Accounting strongly preferred.
• Proven track record with a demonstrated ability to grasp all tasks associated with a Finance/Accounting department.
• 5+ years of managerial experience required.
• Strong leadership qualities with the ability to manage direct reports.
• Working knowledge of payroll systems (cost centers, labor charge fields, allocations), preferably Paycom
• Working knowledge of Government Accounting Standards (GAS), Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS)
• Experience with business intelligence tools and various ERP systems.
• Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
• Excellent analytical skills and data-driven thinking.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Experience with short- and long-term budgeting and forecasting.
• High level of computer literacy is required, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software such as MS Word and Excel. Understands financial reporting and has strong analytical skills.
• Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills and able to communicate technical, business, and mission-related issues in support of strategic goals.
• Develops strong working relationships with team members across departments and seniority levels.
