Costume Shop Manager

Summary:

Reporting to the Head of Costumes, the Costume Shop manager is responsible for the management of the daily activities in the costume workroom, including alterations, restoration, and new builds.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Include the following.

  • Under the direction of the Artistic Director and Head of Costumes, you will maintain the artistic integrity of the costumes.
  • Schedule and coordinate all work in the costume shop.
  • Assign daily work tasks to shop technicians. Supervise work floor.
  • Coordinate and attend fittings for company productions. Assist with academy fittings and necessary.
  • Ensure maintenance of all equipment in the costume shop.
  • Purchase items necessary for general operations in costume shop. Coordinate with Head of Costumes to purchase Rep-specific items.
  • Attend production and planning meetings for company productions. Attend design meetings for new productions.
  • Oversee budget and staffing usage projections and report weekly to Head of Costumes.
  • Maintain Costume Shop records and files as assigned by Head of Costumes.
  • Approve weekly time-keeping reports for costume shop.
  • Attend dress rehearsals and oversee notes to completion for next show.
  • Maintain safety records for costume shop. Attend all Safety Committee meetings as costume shop representative.
  • All other duties as assigned by Head of Costumes.

 

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Technical Theatre or equivalent professional experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years costume shop experience, with one year in leadership role preferred.

 

Computer Skills

  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, and processing systems, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
