Description

Under general guidance of the Event Manager, the IATSE Grandstand Entertainment Stagehands are responsible for move in, set up, operations, and tear down of sound and lighting systems for Grandstand Entertainment.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Grandstand Entertainment:

  • Working with the Grandstand Entertainment sound and lighting company for installation of equipment on the stage.
  • Having a general knowledge of audio/video set up and strike.
  • Loading and unloading of equipment vehicles and entertainer equipment trucks.
  • Assembling screens and running and taping cables.
  • Providing general cleanup of stage and performance area.
  • Setting and striking the pipe and drape for the stage.
  • Having a basic knowledge of lighting and being familiar with the names of the cables and fixtures and their uses.
  • Hanging and positioning lights, building trusses, and running out cables.
  • Having a basic knowledge of audio and hanging PA systems.
  • Having a general understanding of video and assisting the video company in building screens and scaffolding and setting projectors.
  • Setting up hard wood sets and assisting with any modifications as needed.
  • Operating a spotlight or video camera during the performance.
  • Operating a forklift for lifting and moving of equipment (must be certified to drive forklift).
  • Working with Stage Manager at performance site.
  • Submitting hours daily to IATSE Grounds Supervisor and Event Manager for payroll.
  • Reporting any concerns or problems with entertainment acts or performance area to the IATSE Grounds Supervisor.
  • Grounds Supervisor:
  • Communicating and meeting with the Entertainment & Attractions Supervisor throughout the year in preparation for the upcoming LA County Fair.
  • Submitting names to the production team of the eligible IATSE stagehands who can be hired to work the Fair for approval.
  • Scheduling IATSE stagehands as needed for assigned shifts.
  • Overseeing IATSE stagehands for move in and tear down of sound and lighting systems for Grounds and Grandstand Entertainment.
  • Supervising the IATSE stagehands during their shifts and assisting them with any concerns or issues at the stages.
  • Verifying that stage decibel levels are within approved range.
  • Assisting IATSE stagehands with entertainment move in and set up if needed.
  • Communicating with the Event Manager on any issues pertaining to any of the performance areas and throughout the grounds.
  • Submitting Grandstands Entertainment payroll hours to Event Manager on a daily basis and submitting a finalized payroll sheet for Grandstand Entertainment at the end of pay period.

Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and abilities:

  • Applicant must be submitted by the IATSE Ground Supervisor to the Event Manager in order to be eligible to work at the L.A. County Fair.

  • Applicants must be a member of IATSE Local 614 or approved in advance by the IATSE Local 614 Ground Supervisor.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Applicants must be in good physical condition and capable of performing the requirements involved.
  • Must be able to lift approximately 50 lbs.
  • Must be available to work during the entire L.A. County Fair.
