In our Upper School, you’ll work alongside one hundred and thirty other faculty who embody the same intellectual curiosity, wholesome intensity, and creative spirit as our students. As Associate Director of College Counseling, you will join a collaborative and experienced team--including a Director, three fellow Associate Directors, and a full-time Administrative Assistant--to deliver a comprehensive college counseling program for a graduating class of 200 students per year.

Anticipated start date: July 22, 2024

Supervisor: Head of the Upper School; Director of College Counseling

Position Status:  This position is a salaried, exempt, full-time, regular, 10-month position.

Hours of Work:  Standard work week.  Occasional evening and weekend work required.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage college application process for 40-45 senior and junior students, including writing unique, advocacy-centered recommendation letters; leading parent-student conferences; and providing guidance for all aspects of the college counseling process
  • Plan events, co-host over 100 visiting college representatives per year, and attend conferences and college tours
  • Serve as a Grade Level Representative to facilitate the advisement of the senior class
  • Staff 10-15 evening and weekend programs per year (including a college fair, mock interview night, Paying for College Night, case studies, on-campus university information sessions and interview days, and various other school functions)
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree preferred but not required, with preference for a degree in a writing-intensive discipline
  • Significant experience in selective, recommendation-reliant university admissions and/or college counseling
  • Team player with a positive attitude, proactive approach, and a customer-service mindset
  • Polished oral, written, telephone, and e-mail communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and a wide variety of constituents
  • Flexible and resilient problem-solver with a demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent planning, prioritization, and organizational skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple tasks
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion; respect and value the different experiences, ideas, and backgrounds that are brought to the work and school environment
  • Fundamental understanding of and commitment to the School’s culture, mission, and vision; a willingness to serve as an ambassador for the School, both internally and externally
  • Proficiency with essential Web-based platforms, such as Scoir and the Google Suite
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Growth mindset with interests in self-development and cultivating leadership

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

 


 

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Ability to become CPR and First Aid Certified.

 

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may frequently walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.  The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.

 

TRAVEL

 


 

Travel is primarily local during the regular business day.  Overnight and out-of-area travel may also be required.
