Illustrator/Graphic Artist

The American Printing House for the Blind (APH) – a world leader in empowering people who are blind or low vision by providing accessible and innovative products, materials, and services for lifelong success – is seeking a creative and inspired Illustrator/Graphic artist to join our in-house agency, Dot6. Our ideal candidate will have the ability to think creatively and create accessible and meaningful graphics, with a goal of increasing awareness of our organization, its products and services, and mission.

 

Our Illustrator/Graphic Artist plays an integral role on our team through the creation of visual designs that support the sale of our products, and promotion of our services and programs. The ability to communicate the strategies behind the design concepts and their execution is a must, as is the ability to take feedback to make design edits as needed. Your work will be varied and call on a wide range of skills – from illustrating children’s books to logo creation, collateral development, and more.

This position reports to the Director of Creative Services.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a team of talented creatives to create and sustain marketing objectives and brand consistency.
  • Provide graphic design and illustration for new and existing products and services, prototypes, displays, web graphics, product packaging, and marketing collaterals for APH, our APH ConnectCenter, and other APH affiliates.
  • Prepare files for submission to external print vendors.
  • Coordinate and maintain graphic design, photography, and tactile art new and archived art. Also possess strong knowledge of file naming convention structure and have the ability organize files within our guidelines.
  • Must be proficient with Adobe Creative Cloud including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro and other Adobe software.
  • Possess an understanding of product photography and image editing for the catalog, web pages, and APH.org. Prep multiple versions of photos for print and electronic media based on accessibility needs.
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented and able to execute multiple projects at any given time.
  • Keep an open line of communication across departments and utilize our project management software to document project status and progress.
  • Have your finger on the pulse of new design trends, techniques, and tools to implement and elevate our brand.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 3–5 years of illustration and graphic design experience. (Portfolio to be emailed to rward@aph.org.)
  • Advocates for and assures the highest accessibility standards in all communication from APH. Experience with creating accessible designs is a plus.'
  • Strong project management experience and a high level of attention to detail.
  • A high level of knowledge and comfort working with the Adobe Creative Cloud of programs, particularly Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, and Photoshop.
  • The ability to identify cost-effective ways to produce marketing or promotional materials.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365, as well as other tools/software that may be used to perform daily tasks, i.e., Project Management tools, SharePoint, etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. Work experience may substitute for education.

 

COMPENSATION

Minimum: $46,685 Midpoint: $57,930
