Summary: The Controls Engineering Technician at Westfalia plays a vital role in the design, testing, and installation of control systems for our projects. This position primarily focuses on panel design, I/O panel testing, shop testing of equipment prior to shipping, field installation instruction, and review and inspection of control systems.

 

 Job Functions:

  • Design and develop control panels based on project requirements, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Conduct thorough testing of I/O panels to verify functionality and performance, troubleshooting any issues as needed.
  • Perform shop testing of equipment prior to shipping, simulating real-world conditions to identify and address potential issues before deployment.
  • Provide detailed field installation instructions to field technicians and contractors, ensuring proper installation and configuration of control systems on-site.
  • Review control system designs and installations to ensure adherence to project specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements.
  • Conduct on-site inspections of control systems during installation and commissioning phases, verifying compliance with design plans and client expectations.
  • Collaborate with the Controls Engineering Manager and project teams to identify areas for improvement in control system design, testing, and installation processes.
  • Assist in the development and documentation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for control system design, testing, and installation activities.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to field technicians, contractors,  and project teams, resolving technical issues and addressing customer inquiries as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of control system designs, testing results, installation activities, and customer interactions.

 

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Associate degree or equivalent technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics[epr1] , or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in controls engineering, panel design, or a related field, with a strong understanding of control system components and architecture.
  • Experience in testing and troubleshooting I/O panels and control systems, with a focus on identifying and resolving technical issues efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to review and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel, including overnight stays as required.

 

Preferred Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency in panel design software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, etc.).
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to control system design, testing, and installation.
  • Familiarity with electrical codes, standards, and safety practices.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures which may include freezer environments.
  • Must be fit for air travel.

 

Travel: This position may include up to 50% travel.
