POSITION TITLE:           Diversity Residence Life Coordinator (DRLC)

DEPARTMENT:               Academic Affairs 

WORK LOCATION:          Onsite

REPORTS TO:                    Project Director of PPOHA grant

FLSA STATUS:                   Full-time, Exempt – 12 months

SALARY:                          $70,000 w/housing (non-wage compensation)

GRANT FUNDED BY:      Promoting Postbaccalaureate Opportunities for Hispanic Americans (PPOHA) Grant

 

This full-time grant-funded position is contingent upon the grant's funding or renewal.

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
 

Under the general supervision of the Project Director of the PPOHA grant, provides culturally competent leadership and assists in the daily operation of the housing, campus, and residence life component of graduate student success. The responsibilities include the supervision of the Student Diversity Community-Building Liaison (SDCBL) and Student Workers (SWs), developing, implementing, and supporting programs for residential students aimed at student development, DEI promotion, fostering a sense of belonging, building community, and retention. The Diversity Residence Life Coordinator is intended to be a visible and well-known figure within the NDNU community who proactively responds to resident crises and emergencies. The PPOHA grant funds this position, and its duration is contingent upon the continued funding of the PPOHA grant.

 

SUPERVISORY:  Student Diversity Community-Building Liaison and Student  Workers

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, but not limited to:

  • Hire, train, supervise, and provide ongoing professional development to SDCBLs and SWs
  • Assess and respond to residential student needs of diverse cultures
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive training program for SDCBLs in consultation with the Project Director of the PPOHA grant
  • Hold staff meetings with the SDCBL and SW teams on a weekly basis and bi-weekly one-on-one sessions with individual SDCBLs and SWs
  • Oversee all processes relating to the Health and Wellness Safety Check Process and Community Engagement plans
  • Foster an environment within the residential community in which residents accept and respect their SDCBL as a peer authority figure
  • Provide assistance for housing administrative processes such as opening, closing, room inspections, work orders, etc.
  • Conduct administrative duties as deemed appropriate (e.g., ordering supplies, scheduling meetings, processing staff timecards, performance evaluations, etc.)
  • Prepare and present new student programs to facilitate residential orientation
  • Monitor and evaluate programmatic effectiveness utilizing a variety of assessment techniques
  • Participate in rotating "on-call" coverage and assist in crisis response and resolution
  • Coordinate the scheduling of the duty and library calendar
  • Maintain active and regular contact with the diverse resident community to ensure resident familiarity as well as comfort and awareness of the role of the SDCBL’s staff
  • Monitor roommate and general resident interactions to proactively identify, evaluate, and address individual and group behavioral trends within the residential life community
  • Assist in the supervision of late-night university programming and library
  • Develop and support the success of theme/specialty communities
  • Serve as part of the emergency operation response team
  • Perform other duties or projects as assigned by the Project Director of PPOHA
  • Ability to live on-campus and serve ‘on-call’ hours on weeknights, as well as selected weekends and holidays
  • Hear student conduct cases in accordance with procedures outlined in the Student Handbook when appointed by the Provost as the Hearing Administrator.
  • Develop and maintain a notice board on available off-campus student housing

 

 

 

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND EDUCATION

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation, student personnel services, or a closely related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred.

 

 

Experience:

  • Two years of related increasingly responsible work experience, including program planning.

 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of resident life activities and supervision of student life programs during evenings and weekends.

 

  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of university students, faculty, and staff. 

 

  • Experience planning, organizing, and coordinating assigned functions, activities, and services related to career, work-based learning, and transfer services.   

 

  • Experience working with diverse student populations in academic and/or professional settings.   

 

  • Experience in student services, academic advising, or counseling in an academic environment  

 

  • Experience in program development and coordination   

 

 

  • Previous experience or training in the leadership of student activities

  • Ability to participate in college outreach and orientation programs.

  • Ability to diplomatically handle difficult or urgent matters in a confident and proficient manner 

 

  • Skill in communicating effectively with people at all levels within an organization. 

 

  • Ability to work closely with instructional and student success faculty members on programming campus events and activities 

 

  • Communicate and liaison with faculty, staff, representatives of federal and state agencies, and other educational institutions to coordinate assigned programs and activities. 

 

Working Conditions

  • Physical capacity to lift up to 35 lbs., more with assistance; carry/pull 50 lbs. more with assistance

 

  • Ability to climb stairs and traverse all residence hall environments

 

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Employment contingent on a background investigation

 

  • This position requires the incumbent to live in a campus-provided one-bedroom apartment. An essential qualification is regular and consistent availability on campus to address the needs of our residential population.

 

  • Additionally, the employee must be willing to demonstrate personal conduct that provides mature adult leadership and high-quality role modeling consistent with the Hallmarks of a Notre Dame de Namur Learning Community.
