High School Special Education Teacher - Freire Wilmington
Freire Schools is seeking a highly motivated and relational Special Education Teacher to join our team for the 2023-2024 school year! Our Wilmington campus serves students ranging from 8th to 12th grade. Our Special Education teacher will be responsible for providing individualized and coteaching instruction to students with special needs in a classroom setting. They will collaborate with other teachers and support staff to create and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for each student and work to ensure their academic, social, and emotional success.
We believe that the most equitable thing we can do for our students is to provide them with high-quality standards-aligned materials. We also know that our teachers know their students best, and we trust our teachers to be able to make instructional decisions about how to implement the materials in order to ensure that all kids are able to learn at a deep level. Our understanding of what that looks like is constantly evolving, but we are committed to doing so in all content areas.
Plan, develop and deliver individualized educational plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
Use a variety of instructional strategies and technologies to engage and motivate students in the learning process, and to promote critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration.

Collaborate with other teachers, staff, and administrators to ensure the overall success of the school and its students.
Participate in professional development. Our Freire teachers engage in monthly staff-wide professional development and regular coaching and mentor support.
Create a safe, respectful, and positive classroom environment that fosters students' academic and personal growth, and promotes equity, diversity, and inclusion.
At least 2 years of previous successful experience working with diverse student populations is strongly preferred.
Valid state teaching certification or the ability and willingness to obtain certification.
Excellent communication and relational skills to interact effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators, and to promote a culture of respect, responsibility, excellence, collaboration, and social justice.
