Description

Ss. Cyril & Methodius Church is seeking to hire a Physical Plant Assistant Custodian to be responsible for cleaning and maintaining the parish facilities. The Assistant Custodian works under the Plant Manager on all matters and operations of the parish that pertain to the physical plant. This is a full-time, hourly position.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The list below reflects the general details considered necessary to describe the primary functions of the job identified and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the job.

  • Cleans buildings on a weekly basis (mopping, sweeping, throwing trash, cleaning bathrooms, etc.)
  • Changes lights, changes air filters, and other regularly scheduled maintenance
  • Helps with electrical and mechanical work as needed.
  • Sets up for funerals and other parish activities
  • Helps to maintain the yard and parish grounds
  • Cleans spills and messes as requested by parish staff
  • Moves furniture and other items as requested by parish staff
  • Performs repair and maintenance tasks as necessary across the physical plant
  • Maintains equipment used for plant operation
  • Runs errands for parts and supplies in personal vehicle (mileage expense is reimbursed)
  • Works with volunteers on special projects
  • Helps with special parish activities
  • Keeps all tools clean and ready for use
  • Keeps maintenance shop and office clean at all times
  • Works with the parish staff to provide an overall productive and healthy environment
  • Performs other duties as specified by the Pastor or Plant Manager

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Basic mechanical skills
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy manual/physical labor including frequent bending, walking, lifting of 10 pounds or more
  • Experience in maintenance or trades preferred
  • Good organization skills
  • Good communications skills
  • Willingness to learn new skills

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Submit to pre-employment screening, criminal background check, motor vehicle record check, and drug screening
  • Certified in Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources
  • Position requires adherence to diocesan policies and procedures
