General Statement: The Fleet Science Centers Seasonal Science Educator supports the Fleet Mission Statement and Visitor Experience Philosophy by Teach Summer Camps and other youth programs and assist with developing curriculum for these programs. Position reports to Youth Engagement Manager and School Programs Manager.

This is a seasonal position supporting our Summer 2023 Educational Programs.

Summer Camp Dates: Tuesday, June 20-Friday, August 18, 2023

Training Dates: June 1-16, 2023, for Summer

Reports to: Education Manager

Primary Duties and Responsibilities, including mental requirements of position:

  1. Provide exemplary customer service: handle questions, comments and/or complaints regarding education programs and events professionally and tactfully.
  2. Assist in creation, planning and implementation of Camp programming. This may include curriculum writing as needed.
  3. Teach Summer Camp onsite and offsite and other youth programs as needed. Contribute to planning and implementation of the daily program.
  4. Assist at drop-off, pick-up and lunch times.
  5. Coordinate activity schedule, field trips and supplies for camp
  6. Represent oneself and the Museum in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner.
  7. Attend employee training program and other trainings and meetings as directed.
  8. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor, Educators or Education Coordinators.

Qualifications

Experience, education, or skills required of the incumbent in this position:

  • Some college education required, bachelors degree in education or science preferred.
  • Valid CA driver license.
  • Experience teaching/leading school-aged children in hands-on acticities and youth supervisory experience a plus.
  • Basic science content knowledge required.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate in front of a large group and direct a large group of students and/or adults.
  • Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the telephone, and in writing with students and adults.
  • Ability to handle multiple functions.
