Description

Oak Hall School is seeking a certified, experienced Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse (preferred) to serve as a School Nurse on the school health team.

  • Actively support the mission of the School in all aspects of engagement
  • Support student success by providing health care through evaluation or assessment, intervention, and follow up for children in the school setting. Some duties dependent on level of licensing.
  • Addresses the physical, mental, emotional and social health needs of students in the school community
  • Provide medical care and treatment, as needed and as appropriate, to children with chronic health issues that require assistance during school hours.
  • Identifies abnormal health findings, and reports those findings to parents and as needed, to school personnel. Escalates findings as necessary and appropriate.
  • Document heath interventions and medications given to students in appropriate nursing format within state law and school policy
  • Administer CPR if needed in emergency situations
  • Maintains, evaluates, and interprets cumulative health data to accommodate individual needs of students
  • In partnership with the Director of Operations, plans and implements school health management protocols
  • Manages the school health clinics, including ensuring that the clinics are appropriately equipped and stocked
  • Assessment of the status of student immunization documentation, when necessary
  • Serve as a health liaison between home and school
  • Assist in educating staff and faculty in administration of emergency medication and medication administration for students as applicable by license qualifications
  • Coordinate allergy & medication lists for chaperones attending field trips
  • Stock basic first aid kits for all teachers in the beginning of the year and maintain throughout the year.
  • Coordinate, perform, document and report results of required health screenings
  • Provide guidance in the development of health care authorization forms and maintenance of health records, as part of a broader school initiative relating to access to and management of student health data
  • Provide health counseling to students and parents, as appropriate
  • Attend staff meetings as required
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding health matters
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications, Skills, Abilities:

  • Current Registered Nurse license in the state of Florida OR Current Florida LPN (licensed Practical Nurse) license.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR Certification.
  • Nursing experience in pediatrics, public health, or school health nursing preferred
  • Successful completion of applicable board certifying exam
  • Certification through National Board of Certification of School Nurses (NBCSN) preferred if applicable
  • Ability to carry out nursing care plans for students with chronic health problems.
  • Ability to evaluate students for potential medical concerns and escalate response as appropriate
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc), with willingness to learn and utilize other internal data platforms
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent bedside manner, with a specific ability to connect and relate to children and adolescents


Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Works in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
  • Regularly uses close and distance vision
  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
  • Ability to locate students visually and audibly under their supervision
  • Ability to actively circulate throughout the diverse campus environment
  • Works primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment
  • Ability to occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
