Summary:

Under the supervision of the Prevention and Community Education Director, the Prevention Educator develops and implements educational and outreach presentations, programs and activities for youth and adults, focusing on healthy relationships, intimate partner violence, teen dating violence, bullying and other topics as it relates. The Prevention Educator travels and works primarily in Orange County, working closely with school districts, Family Resource Centers, local universities, faith-based organizations, and community groups. The Prevention Educator will maintain and establish new community partnerships to drive education and outreach for violence prevention education and awareness. The Prevention Educator will recruit participants to join groups, opportunities, and to assist in the agency’s domestic violence outreach and prevention education efforts throughout target communities.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Prevention Education
    • Secure, develop, and facilitate presentations and groups on intimate partner violence and teen dating violence. The Prevention Educator will reach both youth and adult audiences.
    • Conduct first responder educational workshops to law enforcement, medical professionals, salon professionals, etc.
    • Deliver, lead, and execute campaigns, including but not limited to: Domestic Violence Awareness Month (lead)Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (lead)Child Abuse Prevention MonthSexual Assault Awareness Month, Elder Abuse Awareness
    • Completion of a minimum of 4 teen group cohorts per year; secure a minimum of 5 presentations per month; create and implement social media and outreach materials
    • Responsible for coordinating and leading the 40 Hour DV Training twice per year (at minimum).
    • Establish and maintain effective relationships with community partners (school districts, individual school sites, community based organizations, etc.) with the purpose of creating active and sustainable partnerships to maximize awareness of domestic violence issues in the community.

 

  • Digital Prevention & Communications
    • Plan for media postings on various platforms and ensure content aligns with agency branding guidelines to increase followers and engagement.
    • Create and gather content to schedule and regularly update social media across several platforms, engage with constituents and continue to grow our online footprint by 3% annually.
    • Create visual or graphic materials, draft captions and messaging for social/digital content, edit and review digital content, and obtain final approval for all e-communication pieces, adhering to calendar deadlines.
    • Responsible for gathering stories, drafting content, finalizing layout, obtaining final approvals, and ensuring content is regularly executed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or commensurate work experience preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, Adobe Illustrator preferred, and other design software; working knowledge of Canva, Constant Contact, or similar marketing tools and services.
  • At least one year of experience in a domestic violence program preferred.
  • Completion of the 40 Hour Domestic Violence training required, may be post-hire.
  • Ability to travel to various locations within Orange County, on evenings/weekends as needed.
  • Working knowledge and best practices with social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.
