TemperPack is a rapidly growing company based in Richmond, Virginia. We design and manufacture innovative, sustainable packaging components for cold-chain shipping of food and pharmaceutical products. The markets we serve have an urgent need for disruptive, sustainable alternatives to replace the wide array of non-sustainable packaging materials conventionally used in the cold chain such as Styrofoam coolers. Role: Mechanical Engineer I

Reports to: Director of Design Engineering

Business Unit: Engineering

FLSA: Exempt

Role Summary:

As a Mechanical Engineer you will participate in the full life cycle of inventing, deploying, and improving novel and innovative manufacturing equipment.   You will design in the SolidWorks environment under the guidance of a Lead Engineer, and assist the team in prototyping, fabrication, assembly, installation, and testing.  At all times, you will provide safety leadership by observing and adhering to safety regulations while advancing the state of the art of safety focused design.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Performing all work with an emphasis on safety and quality
  • Utilize CAD software to perform design responsibilities
  • Create accurate part drawings
  • Prepare design & drawing packages for hand-off to Fabrication
  • Measurement of machine parts and assemblies using calipers, tapes, and micrometer
  • Assisting team members to keep work areas clean and orderly
  • Collaborating with Operations and Process Engineering to run tests and gather data
  • Use of hand tools (e.g. wrenches) and power tools (e.g. electric impacts)
  • Material preparation for welding, thermal cutting, and grinding
  • Use of shop machinery (e.g. Drill press and horizontal band saw)
  • Installation of equipment under the guidance of a Lead Engineer
  • Lifting and carrying up to 50lbs
  • Utilize Microsoft Office (e.g. Word and Excel)
  • Other duties as necessitated by the business

Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • 3+ years CAD design experience
  • 1+ years shop experience preferred
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Detail oriented with high sense of urgency and positive attitude
  • High mechanical aptitude
  • Proficient using CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks or Fusion)
  • Preferred experience in Solidworks PDM
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Able to stay on task with minimal supervision
  • Ability to learn new process and develop new skills
  • Works well under pressure and able to meet deadlines'

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Able to reach, bend, kneel and climb while performing repetitive tasks
  • Ability to work in hot and cold environments
  • Able to correctly wear PPE for entire shifts
  • Able to react and respond quickly to noises, smells, visual hazards, and alerts
