TemperPack is a rapidly growing company based in Richmond, Virginia. We design and manufacture innovative, sustainable packaging components for cold-chain shipping of food and pharmaceutical products. The markets we serve have an urgent need for disruptive, sustainable alternatives to replace the wide array of non-sustainable packaging materials conventionally used in the cold chain such as Styrofoam coolers. We aspire to offer products that customers and end-consumers feel great about using.

Role Summary:

As a Plant Engineer, you will be involved in the complete lifecycle of novel and innovative manufacturing equipment, from design through maintenance and continuous improvement. Your primary focus will be on the mechanical design of systems and the enhancement of equipment and processes within the SolidWorks environment under the guidance of a Lead Engineer. Additionally, you will assist in the invention, prototyping, fabrication, assembly, installation, and testing of equipment. You will provide safety leadership by adhering to safety regulations throughout all project phases.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Apply best practices of safety standards in machine design and human interaction with production equipment.
  • Create SOW documents for plant improvement projects.
  • Perform root cause analysis of process and equipment issues.
  • Redline drawings in collaboration with maintenance, technicians, and engineers as changes are made throughout the plant.
  • Maintain open communication channels between operations and engineering on equipment status throughout each project.
  • Run tests and gather data for design verification.
  • Install equipment under the guidance of a Lead Engineer.
  • Design parts and assemblies in SolidWorks to improve existing equipment and manufacturing processes.
  • Fabricate parts and assemblies from drawings with specified features and tolerances.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and shop machinery (e.g. calipers, laser and tape measures, wrenches, drill press, horizontal band saw).
  • Maintain an organized and clean work area.
  • Perform other duties as necessitated by the business.

Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • 2+ years CAD design experience
  • 1+ years shop experience preferred
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent


Knowledge and Skills:

  • Detail oriented and organized with high sense of urgency and positive attitude
  • High mechanical aptitude
  • Proficient using CAD software (SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred)
  • Preferred experience in SolidWorks PDM
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office (e.g Word and Excel)
  • Able to stay on task with minimal supervision
  • Ability to learn new processes and develop new skills
  • Works well under pressure and able to meet deadlines

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift 40 pounds unassisted.
  • Able to reach, bend, kneel and climb while performing repetitive tasks
  • Ability to work in hot and cold environments
  • Able to correctly wear PPE for entire shifts
  • Able to react and respond quickly to noises, smells, visual hazards, and alerts
