Position Summary

The Quality Assurance Specialist (“Specialist”) works closely with the Director, Quality Assurance and Control, and through various internal and external analytical techniques, helps to ensure the consistency and quality of our products.  The Specialist shall have experience in quality management systems, food science, supplement manufacturing or a closely related field. The Specialist must possess the necessary skills and relevant experience to lead quality assurance programs, including regular inspections of the facility, ingredients, and finished products, and risk assessment of ingredients and processing steps.

Position Specific Responsibilities

  • Performs QA inspections on all incoming or internally produced ingredients, packaging material, and finished goods
  • Participates in inventory reporting and communication to quality, sales and finance teams
  • Inspects and samples product to ensure that all HACCP/HARPC guidelines and specifications are met
  • Identifies areas of continual improvement within the Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Verifies batch recipes and MMRs
  • Ensures product labeling is compliant with state, federal, and Prop 65 guidelines and specific customer requests
  • Ensures environmental monitoring program swabs are taken in accordance with program schedule and proper SOP followed
  • Maintains accurate documentation of quality inspection results, and discuss them with those responsible for products, and providing them with recommendations when there are necessary corrective actions
  • Generates certificates of analyses (COA)
  • Documents all activities accurately and thoroughly, writes new and reviews current SOPs
  • Active participant of the food safety team from a quality, food safety, and sanitation perspective. Actively manages aspects of the sanitation program and other prerequisite programs as requested by management
  • Able to train others and document training on policies and procedures related to quality and food safety
  • Follows quality and pre-requisite programs related to designated area
  • Participates in company quality, safety and production meetings as applicable
  • Supports the order fulfillment process
  • Two (2) years of prior experience in a food grade, dietary supplement, or pharmaceutical industry quality control environment; commercial cGMP and/or manufacturing experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree in food science, food safety, chemistry, biology or in a related field
  • Preventative Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) certification preferred
  • Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification preferred
  • Working knowledge of cGMP, HACCP, OSHA, and other regulatory and safety requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and perform work with limited daily direct supervision
  • Demonstrated high sense of urgency and ownership of assigned tasks
