Oak Hall School is seeking educators who enjoy being part of a welcoming and supportive learning community to join our team as a Teaching Assistant in an elementary (Preschool to 3rd grade) classroom. Our Lower School seeks to develop inquisitive thinkers and joyful learners, and to plant the seeds for lifelong learning in a warm, welcoming and supportive educational environment. Our Teaching Assistants play a vital role in creating a nurturing classroom environment, by sharing their enthusiasm for learning, and engaging with students with kindness, love and happiness. Our Teaching Assistants also help to support the lead teacher in the classroom by providing assistance with a myriad of administrative and classroom management tasks, all of which help to create a wholistic educational experience that helps our students build critical foundational skills and a pathway for lifelong learning. We are currently hiring Teaching Assistants at various grade levels for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year, with an anticipated start date of August, 2024.

At Oak Hall, teaching assistants:

  • Actively support the mission of Oak Hall School
  • Accept, support and adopt the curriculum, classroom procedures and general teaching style and atmosphere established by the lead Classroom Teacher
  • Assist with instruction of individual children or small groups under direction of the lead Classroom Teacher
  • Perform clerical duties (attendance, filing, photocopies, etc.)
  • Supervise the classroom when the teacher is out of the room
  • Help with general organization of the classroom, such as updating bulletin boards
  • Escort and supervise students to and from special area classes
  • Supervise outside playground activities
  • Supervise students during lunch
  • Meet regular and predictable attendance requirements (7:45 a.m. daily start time)
  • Assist with various school functions throughout the year as required, including but not limited to field trips, evening Open House, and plays
  • Substitute for lead Classroom Teacher, as required
  • Attend all staff meetings and training programs as required
  • Be a role model of integrity and professionalism
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school degree or GED required
  • Coursework toward Bachelors Degree in Education preferred
  • Experience working with children in classroom age-range
  • Possess an enthusiasm for working with children in an educational setting
  • Possess a basic understanding of the developmental needs of young children
  • Strong computer skills, experience with educational technology preferred
  • Good verbal skills with students, colleagues and parents
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Patient, calm, nurturing demeanor
  • A high degree of professionalism, collegiality, and personal conduct both in and outside of school
  • Ability and judgment to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to the vision and mission of the School

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
  • May stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to occasionally lift, push or pull up to 30 lbs.
  • Works primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment
  • Works intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
  • Ability to actively circulate throughout the diverse campus environment
  • Ability to visually and audibly locate students under their supervision
