The Controls Engineer will be responsible for developing, adapting, and troubleshooting PLC and HMI code according to department standards.

 

Key Job Functions:

  • Develop PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) code based on department standards, with a strong emphasis on PLC.
  • Adapt standard PLC code to new applications, ensuring seamless integration and functionality.
  • Debug and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems at customer sites, providing efficient and effective solutions as well as world class customer service.
  • Conduct control system testing and commissioning to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Coordinate PLC programs with control system and mechanical designs, facilitating smooth project execution.
  • Work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously, managing time and resources effectively.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating self-motivation and initiative.
  • Travel to job sites as required to aid in system commissioning efforts and provide on-site customer training.
  • Provide input to product development reviews to enhance ease of maintenance and reduce field failures.
  • assembling, installing, testing, and maintaining electrical or electronic wiring equipment and apparatuses using hand and power tools.
  • You will inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, ensuring compliance with applicable codes.
  • Timely and professional submission of all paperwork is essential.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency in writing and troubleshooting PLC code, including Ladder Logic and Structured Text.
  • Expertise in Rockwell programming software and hardware, including Logix500, Logix5000, and PanelView.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, Industrial Ethernet, DeviceNet, Motor Control and VFD Drives, Relays, and Sensors.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools, multimeters, and/or oscilloscopes.
  • Proficiency in interpreting electrical wiring diagrams/schematics.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic automation systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.

 

Education/Experience:

  • 3+ years’ experience in controls engineering or similar.
  • Engineering Degree or equivalent trade experience.
  • Electrical troubleshooting experience.

 

Desired/Required:

  • Four-year Engineering Degree (Electrical or Computer Engineering).
  • Proficiency in CAD Software, specifically EPlan and AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of the German and/or Spanish language.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform both physical labor and office work.
  • Capability for safe climbing and working in structures up to 150 ft.
  • Clear, concise, and active communication skills.
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
  • Flexibility to work occasional weekends and evenings for commissioning trips.
  • Adaptability to working environment temperatures ranging from -40 degrees F to +110 degrees F.

 

Location Requirement: Only candidates within 100 miles of the Westfalia York PA campus will be considered.
