POSITION SUMMARY

The Consultant markets, sells, manages, and delivers healthcare technology consulting services to healthcare providers in various healthcare sectors and supports healthcare incident investigations for clients. In collaboration with and under the guidance of the Senior Consultant and Investigator, the Consultant ensures the delivery of high-quality services to clients and proactively identifies ways to improve our processes. In addition, the Consultant will work closely with existing and new Device Safety service offerings, as well as cross-collaborate with other ECRI business units to coordinate and/or provide project support in their area of expertise as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).

Due to the amount of business travel required, the Consultant must live within 60 miles of a major U.S. airport.

Essential Functions Statement(s):

Healthcare Technology Consulting:

  • Manage and deliver healthcare technology consulting services to providers in various healthcare sectors, such as clinical engineering management, predictive replacement planning, capital device analytics, medical device procurement, and proactive assessments designed to prevent known hazards (e.g., clinical alarm management). Technology consulting engagements include, but not limited to, capital equipment replacement, capital clinical analytics, healthcare technology, healthcare operations, etc.
  • Perform detailed, intensive research to formulate accurate and effective solutions or plans to address the client's specified needs, including, but not limited to, thorough on-site assessments and stakeholder interviews.
  • Ensure projects are completed in a timely manner, within budget, and within client's expectations. If a project scope expands, manage the expansion, and obtain fee changes from clients in a timely manner.
  • Maintain excellent client relations during and after project completion to favorably position ECRI for additional consulting services and memberships.
  • Provide well-written, technically accurate, and logically defensible deliverables to clients regarding, but not limited to, technology assessments, equipment planning and management, patient safety, and incident investigations.

Marketing and Business Development:

  • Cultivate new projects and clients on a continual basis.
  • Write and follow up on proposals, leads, and other business possibilities to develop and bring new business to ECRI.
  • Market consulting services and develop new methods to generate business, in collaboration with marketing and sales teams.
  • Assess the marketplace and develop and/or modify products and services to meet client needs.
  • Develop and maintain networks of clients to develop and sell products and services.
  • Make presentations to potential clients and groups to sell ECRI products and services.
  • Coordinate sales strategies with ECRI leadership.
  • Contribute to group strategic planning, business line management, and budget planning.

Professional Development:

  • Continually develop professionally through extensive reading and participation in educational activities, professional organizations, and meetings to acquire detailed technical knowledge and perspectives relevant to ECRI's programs, projects, and future development.

Reporting:

  • Routinely be available for capital related assignments by making their availability known to corresponding leadership.
  • Routinely and accurately inform the Director of HII-Tech of proposals, revenues, billables, and project statuses for assigned consulting projects and investigations.
  • Forward meaningful ideas for improvements in technical methods, cost savings, scheduling, work assignment or facilities, and changes in institutional policies.
  • Complete required invoicing, effort, expense, and other project-related reporting in a timely manner.

    • Meets established project timelines, deliverables, budgets and quality standards. This includes establishing a budget for total project hours and completing each project within this budget.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

  • Option 1: Five years’ experience in a healthcare facility, preferably in an acute care setting with direct patient care and supervisory responsibilities, is required.
  • Option 2: A biomedical/clinical engineer ten years’ experience in a biomedical role that includes supervisory responsibilities in a hospital setting.
  • Experience assimilating new technologic and administrative methods quickly and comfortably within a framework of interdisciplinary activity and rapidly changing demands and priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a customer service focus required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, and work well with many different professionals in the healthcare field.
  • Broad knowledge over a wide range of medical devices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications and independent problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to multitask with attention to detail and to meet competing deadlines is required.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in an engineering, healthcare, management, or related disciple. Master’s degree in a related discipline is preferred.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 Suite of products.
  • Proficiency with web-based applications.

Certifications & Licenses:

  • Certification and/or license in the discipline of their respective education.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position operates in a remote environment and requires the individual to remain in a stationary position, whether sitting or standing, before a desk or other fixed workspace, most of their workday. In addition, this position requires the individual to occasionally move about their workspace to access and inspect work-related materials, such as file cabinets with physical files and standard office equipment. This position requires the ability to operate standard office equipment, including, but not limited to, a laptop, keyboard, mouse, webcam, and phone, as well as effectively communicate information and ideas to a wide variety of audiences in written and oral form.
