The Assistant Cafe Manager assists in building a healthy business and culture inside of our cafes. The Assistant Manager ensures the operational needs of the cafe are met, while also supporting, exploring, and providing leadership to their team members. The Assistant Manager should be the embodiment of LaColombe culture. They enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and can collaborate with the Cafe Manager to create ideas and sales pitches to increase visibility, troubleshoot efficiently and effectively. In this role, they will help recruit, work with, train, and develop a team of baristas to provide the exceptional customer service and quality coffee experience that La Colombe has built its reputation on. The La Colombe Assistant Cafe Manager possesses a high sense of responsibility, quality, ethics, and integrity. 

PEOPLE & CULTURE Communicate proactively, professionally, and positively with the team and guests. Follow up consistently with employees and managers to help bridge the gap between upper management and employees. Demonstrate compassion and care in relationships with teams while setting clear expectations and accountabilities. Identify difficult situations and escalate to the manager in a proactive manner. Represent La Colombe’s core values and company mission. Assist with the coaching of the team to meet standards, perform well, and treat one another respectfully. 

BEVERAGE QUALITY Ensure the team consistently meets drink standards and serves beverages in a timely manner. Coach baristas to improve drink preparation skills. Possesses extensive knowledge about beverages, and quality control and has the capacity to troubleshoot. 

 

HEALTH & SAFETY  Follow all COVID-19 protocols and meet cleanliness standards. Ensure that all safety protocols are followed even when you are not present. Review and alter checklists with the Cafe Manager. Ensure safety, harassment, injuries or any other issues brought to your attention are reported and communicated to the manager or group manager immediately. Actively identify, coach, and correct unsafe practices and behavior. 

 

HOSPITALITY Responsible for assisting in creating and maintaining an environment that is passionate about hospitality. Assist in educating baristas so that they are fluent with the La Colombe mission, values, and culture as well as the story of our coffees. Learn how to build relationships with guests by communicating warmly and authentically. Seek opportunities to engage with guests and build community. Deliver timely, professional, and knowledgeable service.  Exceed guest expectations.

 

BUSINESS ACUMEN Assist in developing and maintaining a labor schedule that is efficient and cost-effective. Support with timely payroll and admin tasks timely and accurately. Work with daily cash and the POS system. Complete monthly product inventory. Create and execute concise par sheets. Utilize a calendar system to order paper goods and other cafe needs and supplies in a timely manner Attend all scheduled management meetings. Maintain regular communication with the Cafe Manager and DM/Director concerning operation details. Build and foster relationships with local businesses. Seek opportunities to increase sales opportunities within the walls of the cafe. 


TRAVEL Some Assistant Cafe Manager roles require travel. Travel will be reimbursed following expense procedures and must be approved.

Qualifications

  • Food Service:  1-2 years of food service experience.

  • People skills: Dealing with the public and team proactively, professionally, and positively.

  • Ownership: Takes initiative, personally drives & takes pride in the business. CARES
